Oh no, what an ignominious and sudden end for young Corsin. We all just learned Giathos is a harsh place, even to the main characters. I don't know how combat works in Shadowdark at all and I'll learn, but the fact that Corsin couldn't dodge or attack first (you didn't seem to roll for either) really turned Pelf's surprise attack into a blunder. I imagine he'll carry the guilt of not coordinating an attack for a long time.
I know, I could not believe the rolls. I had such high hopes for the kid to drive the narrative. I will have to come up with something. And Pelf is still going with his 1 HP and paper thin constitution. It makes for a cool story if he can stay alive though!
I know! Corsin had great stats and I was hopeful to get some narrative out of him but I'm looking forward to riding this ride. Shadowdark combat can be brutal without a healer and a couple bad rolls. Pelf thought he could alpha strike his way through but Corsin rolled poorly for combat initiative and took a hit he could not withstand. Smarter setup and less impulsive attacking likely would have save Corsin from taking any hits.
